Acle, UK 07/05/2011. A troop of scouts are ‘scouting’ out speeders in the Acle neighbourhood with the help of their local officers as part of their Community Challenge Award. Officers from the Acle Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) have, for the first time in Norfolk, teamed up with the Scouts Association, who has launched a national partnership to help forge relationships between police and youngsters and enable scouts to achieve their Community Challenge Award. As part of the award the scouts are required to identify and work to resolve a community issue and in Acle the scouts from the 1st Acle Scouts Group identified speeding as a concern. Left to right: Benjamin Weavers, Megan Allen, Jasmine Florence, James Hunter, Rebekah Dunning, Kathleen Cawley, Rachel Straight,. All from the Mile Cross Primary School in Norwich. Around 100 Norfolk children are set to 'graduate' at the University of East Anglia on Monday (June 15) as part of a Norfolk County Council scheme to encourage lifelong learning from a young age. Complete with gowns and mortar boards, the 9-11 year olds, and some even younger, will receive certificates as part of a university style graduation ceremony to mark the completion of the Children's University programme. The Children's University is a national project*, offering children aged 7-14 an exciting and innovative programme of learning opportunities outside school hours, with a focus on rewarding participation, raising aspirations and encouraging engagement with learning. It aims to develop a culture of achievement and lifelong learning from an early age. The Norfolk pupils have taken part in the scheme since September, seeing them get involved in after-school activities such as puppet making and cookery.
